Just before reaching Aberdeen, we visited the one-street village of Kintore from where Al's descendants originate. Such a mesmerising exercise reading the ancient tombstones, with some success, we thought.
Aberdeen's big smoke was huge. A bustling city with way too many people roaming the streets and not working. So far, the BEST Mercat Cross we've found.
Remember from the old Merchant/Market days.
Another plus for Aberdeen, was their overly helpful Family Research volunteer, finally giving Al and exciting lead on his family's history. Mum and Keith did a spot of shopping while we were busy at the Research Centre.
We ended our day with a visit to Aberdeen's Maritime Museum which was interesting in tidbits.
Last, but by no means least, was a late lunch at The Ashvale - voted No. 1 fish and chips in GREAT BRITAIN. Mum and Al wouldn't let Keith and I eat our fish from newspaper print in the gutter, so this boat was next best!
3 Hours home instead of 1, due to road closures - all exhausted.
