Down in the valley where the green grass grows, there sit hippies washing their clothes : D
True story - there's a 150-strong community who live off the land down there.
To get to Loch Ness we drove straight through Inverness to the beginning of the endless expanse of water that is the Loch, starting at Dromnadrochit. A quick snoop in the shop and then a freezing picnic lunch on the common. We found THE quintessential lolly shop and I bought the most revolting "tattie" (potato lookalikes) cinnamon covered lollies, plus some other yummy ones.
We searched in vain for the elusive Nessie and took in a quick glance at Urquhat Castle from a distance, keeping a watchful lookout over the Loch.
Driving back, we did a slow scenic drive through of Inverness and carried on to Culloden Battlefield to view the blue and red flags depicting the area where the England/Scotland massacre occurred. More exciting, however, was the adjacent field with two hairy Heeland Coo's. Much to our chagrin they defiantly turned their backs on us, despite our best efforts at cajoling them closer.

Hopefully you can open this link to see the gorgeous cows.
On strong recommendation, we dropped in at Forres village's MacBeth Butchery for Allan to try real rounds of haggis, covered in sheep-stomach lining, baked in the oven for dinner - not my favourite dish.
