Back to Hermiston Park n Ride for Edinburgh, but down the Royal Mile today. We decided it was a wise decision to start at the top of the hill and amble down instead of the other way around. Along the way, seeing multiple scarves, kilts and whisky shops, we stopped at the entrance to Edinburgh's underground at Mary King's Close "What Lies Beneath", where medieval gloomy passageways were bricked up back in the day from the plague era, to close in the sick. Moving on.....
Lunch was at the appropriately named Royal Mile Tavern, after which, we paused to admire John Knox House memorabilia from the reformist's transformation of Scotlands religion. Beside the house stood Robert Ferguson, the poet who influenced Robert Burns, at Mercat Cross in front of Canongate Kirk which was the merchant site of yesteryear. Down the hill to admire Holyrood Palace from the outside and on up Calton Hill for a bit of modern day shopping at St James Shopping Centre. Back to the bus stop through beautiful St Andrews garden with sun soakers burning their not-very-accustomed-to-the-heat, bodies.
No photo's as I forgot the camera that day and haven't uploaded mum's photo's yet.
