13 June 2012 GALWAY BAY Wednesday

Local day today, starting with a stroll along The Promenade of Galway Bay.
Along the way were children playing in the sand, swimmers training across the bay and an oblivious old lady nonchalantly changing into her swimmers and wading into the icy waves without so much as a flinch! Interestingly, she was swimming in a sectioned off bay which was for ladies only, long ago.

Having walked the length of The Promenade, we hopped into the car/bus and drove around Salt Hill for an elevated view of Galway Bay, moving on to Galway Cathedral, which, incidentally, finds itself in the paradoxical situation of being built on the site of a previous jail, next, we lunched nearby.

We whiled away our afternoon, floating gently on Lake Corrib aboard the Corrib Princess.

Corrib Lake AKA Swan Lake
(thanks Keith for the moving rendition of Swan Lake)

I don't recall all the info given, but there was a castle, a fort and a bridge okay.  The castle had a fire from which a young girl and maid escaped out the window and was rebuilt and reowned - that's all I've got.  If any readers would like to fill in the gaps, please do...

Home for a raucous rematch of Triominoes and dinner.
