4 December 2011 MINEHEAD Sunday

On the road again, with a detour to Chepstow and Tintern Abbey on the outskirts of the Forest of Dean.  Tintern Abbey was built in the 1200's and has incredibly high roof gables and intricate window designs with a huge spread of nooks and crannies.  It left us incredulous with it's detail and stature.
Back over to England, on the first Severn Crossing this time and into southwestern England and Exmoor.  Narrow winding lanes through endearing ramshackle villages dotted with ancient steeples of Churches from bygone days enchanted us.
Checked-in at the Duke of Wellington, affectionately dubbed The Welli and then collected by Gavin Taylor who is an old friend and well-informed guide.  We saw and heard an abundance of sights and informations this afternoon, but those that stand out to me are the Dunster Dovecote which is the only known one not to be converted for secondary use.
We saw red deer in a wooded area of the moor and expansive views of the patchwork farmlands on the moor hillsides.
